Dragon - Female Piasa Bird by FoolishLittleMortal Dragon - Female Piasa Bird by FoolishLittleMortal
A drawing I made with a fineliner this week. It started as something to keep me busy at school.

This is the dragon known as the Piasa bird.
Not many people know about these dragons. It's a shame. They're pretty cool creatures.

The original Piasa is actually a male. Well, it looks like one and is described to have a face that looks like that of a man. I thought it would be cool to try and make a female Piasa.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Though I'm not completely happy with the head yet. (face, hair, horns)
I'll probably draw more of these creatures since I'm really starting to like them.

I'm a musician, and our group is playing a song called "Flight of the Piasa." We were curious what this bird/dragon looked like, so the trombonist next to me looked up on his phone and found this picture. He showed it around, and we were all highly impressed. Job well done! You managed to impress a whole symphony of musicians. :D

Thank you for both: your fine art depicting less known "dragon" creatures AND purely for the information, making these creatures' their existence known.

A couple of years ago I got a book about dragons titled 'How to raise and keep a Dragon'. In the book they showed and described some dragon species. They also had some lesser known ones in there and the Piasa was one of them. I thought it was a pretty interesting creature. :)

Holy crap she is awesome! She is gorgeous and a beautiful avian type dragon. Also a fan of harpies so the female torso and head are a nice touch. She has a very attractive face by the way.

Just wanted to say I love your version of the Piasa bird. I grew up learning it's legends and was always a bit freaked out by the image. You certainly made it easier on the eyes! lol. And your detail is really just incredible.

It doesn't really surprise me that you never heard of them before. They're not very well known at all.

I absolutely LOVE the detail in this *stared at it for 10 min* But like you already said, the face could is some work, It seems a bit detached from the rest of the body....

I also love the scales in the feathers *stares*

Thanks. =p Stared for 10 minutes? :XD:

The head seems detached cuz I originally planned to draw inner me as a piasa. That's why the horns look a bit weird, cuz I wanted to base those off of her hair. ^^;

Then I decided to just try and make a female piasa... that's why she doesn't really look much like inner me. ^^; And I felt like practicing all the different structures; feathers, scales etc.

In the end this was just a boredom piece in class, but I really liked how it turned out (besides the head) and decided to upload it. :3

I'm always a fan of your artworks highlighting some of the lesser known mythical creatures. You have such an eye for detail, especially when it comes to things like scales and feathers. If you hadn't mentioned that this was a dragon, I would've very easily thought it was closer to a gryphon. I would say to bump up the line weight in areas like around the front raised claw so that it stands out from the other leg and doesn't get lost. That's it, though, as everything else looks very good.

I like giving some of the lesser known creatures some attention. Some of them are really awesome creatures and I'm surprised not many people know about them. They deserve some attention.

I also noticed the front raised claw getting lost a bit in the pic. Another thing I should work on... ^^;
